ShiftBud is a generative MIDI sequencer inspired by the eurorack module, Turing Machine, designed by Tom Whitwell.
It operates using 16-bit shift register chips to dynamically adjust its value during each sequence step. By manipulating the chaos knob, users can control the sequence length, allowing for the creation of unique musical patterns. Adjusting the chaos level can produce sequences that range from occasional variations to entirely random values.
The MIDI note generation feature supports over 110 scales along with customization options through ScaleBud 2 scales. Users can define octave ranges, velocity settings, and introduce randomness to velocity values.
For MIDI Control Change data, users can specify upper and lower bounds and select the CC number to be controlled. This functionality is particularly valuable for modulating synth parameters or even adjusting ShiftBud's AU parameters.
ShiftBud enables unlimited pattern creation on the app interface, providing convenient pattern selection through MIDI CC messages. Note that ShiftBud functions as a MIDI controller and does not produce audio output directly. To utilize it as an AUv3 plugin, integration with host applications such as AUM, Cubasis, apeMatrix, Nanostudio, or Beat Maker is required.
